Rundumblick Park

Der Hyde Park ist einer der größten Innenstadt-Parks weltweit bekannt. Er bildet eine der wichtigsten Pfeiler der grünen Lunge Londons. Die erste geschichtliche Erwähnung findet um das Jahr 1000 n.Chr. statt. Im Jahr 1536 wurde er von König Heinrich VIII. in Besitz genommen und eingezäunt. Ursprünglich sollten hier Jagten stattfinden.
Später wurde er dann geöffnet und für Prunkumzüge mittels Kutschenkorsos genutzt. Allerdings gibt es auch Aufzeichnungen als Hinrichtungsstätte.
1851 wurde hier sogar auf Anregung Prinz Alberts die erste Weltausstellung abgehalten.
Seit 2004 steht im Park auch der Prinzessin-Diana-Gedenk-Brunnen, neben einer Vielzahl anderer Brunnen und Denkmäler.

Jeder darf reden im Hyde Park!

Am nordöstlichen Teil des Parks befindet sich der Speakers Corner, an dem jeder zu jeder Uhrzeit Reden halten darf. Ausgenommen ist hierbei nur die königliche Familie im weitesten Sinne.
Auch bietet der Park viele Freizeitmöglichkeiten. Hier seien zum Beispiel die Möglichkeiten des Schwimmen, Rudern, Reiten oder Bowlen genannt. Auch finden im Sommer regelmäßig Konzerte statt.
Die Tiere im Park sind i.d.R. so zahm, das sie Passanten (wie schon erwähnt) aus der Hand fressen.

Eichhörnchen Park
Der See innerhalb des Parks ist der Serpentine Lake, welcher den Park optisch in zwei Hälften teilt.
Im Südosten des Parks (Hyde Park Corner) steht der mächtige Wellington Arch, welcher zu Ehren des Duke of Wellington und des Sieges der Schlacht bei Waterloo erbaut worden ist.
