https://satishu.de/london-2014-donnerstag/ Mon, 01 Dec 2014 18:00:00 +0000 https://satishu.de/?p=596 Nachdem ich mir heute erst einmal ein wenig Ruhe gegönnt habe, kann ich heute nicht so viel schreiben. Vor dem Beginn der Tour habe ich in den italienischen Gärten im Hyde Park noch etwas gelesen.
Dennoch tat es mir gut ein wenig zu entspannen, die Sonne und Vögel zu genießen, während ich einem Schwan beim Duschen zusehen konnte.
Nebenbei habe ich ein Buch zu Ende gelesen. Der Tag in London kann also starten.

Später bin ich dann zur Waterloo Station gegangen und von dort aus zurück über die Themse, wo ich meine Begleitung auf dem Embarkement getroffen habe.
Anschließend haben wir den Trafalgar Square, sowie den Picadilly Circus besucht. Dort spielen viele Musiker und Schauspieler, Pantomime, etc. ihre Rollen und Musik. Ein sehr lustiges und buntes Treiben.

Waterloo Station

National Gallery

Auch die National Gallery ist von uns begutachtet worden. Dies ist ein Kunstmuseum in London und befindet sich am nördlichen Trafalgar Square und gilt als eine der umfassendsten und bedeutendsten Gemäldegalerien der Welt.
Die Sammlung umfasst 2300 Werke, welche alle zwischen dem 13. und 19. Jahrhundert erschaffen wurden.

Vorplatz National Gallery
Im Jahr 1824 wurde die Gallery ins Leben gerufen, nachdem der russische Bankier John Julius Angerstein seine Sammlung an Großbritannien verkaufte.
Zuerst wurden die Bilder im Haus von Angerstein untergebracht. Später kamen jedoch noch weitere Schenkungen hinzu, so dass 1837 ein eigenes, neues Gebäude notwendig geworden war.  Ursprünglich sollte auch die Künstlerakademie mit in das Gebäude einziehen, welches sich aber als zu klein erwies. 1876 wurde ein Ostflügel fertig gestellt, welcher der National Gallery zu mehr Platz verhalf.
Das Gebäude selber ist seit dem immer wieder aus- und umgebaut worden. Dabei ist darauf geachtet worden, das sich der ursprüngliche Entwurf nicht zu stark verändert.
